Man Killed by Officers in St. Croix County was MN Corrections Officer

The 42-year-old man who was fatally shot by law enforcement officers Saturday night after he allegedly exited a residence while armed with a rifle has been identified as a Minnesota corrections officer, last employed at the Stillwater prison. A written statement from Minnesota Dept. of Corrections Commissioner Paul Schnell identified the man as Tyler Abel, of rural New Richmond.

A 42-year-old New Richmond man was shot and killed by law enforcement after he exited a residence while armed with a long gun Saturday night in Star Prairie Township. The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office says a domestic disturbance report was received around 10:45 p.m. at a residence in Star Prairie Township, about five miles north of New Richmond. A caller said her husband was "out of control" and "threatening to bring his AR out."

Stillwater police confirm that a man is dead after exchanging gunfire with officers at an apartment building on Saturday afternoon. Police say they were dispatched to an apartment building located at 2225 Orleans Street West just before 2:30 p.m. for multiple reports of gunshots being fired inside. Another report came in to dispatch from someone inside saying they’d been shot.
